pho pasteur

Pho Pasteur is Joe's favourite pho spot and conveniently, it's open 24 hours. Their pho is definitely some of the best in the city in my opinion. The broth is consistently flavourful, the service is surprisingly friendly, and they don't skimp on the add-ins (Thai basil, bean sprouts, sawtooth, limes and fiery bird's eye chilis).

* avocado milkshake
Sounds weird, tastes awesome. Cold, creamy and slightly sweet.

* coconut milkshake
Also tasty and refreshing.

* shrimp salad rolls
Your standard salad rolls filled with poached shrimp, fresh herbs, lettuce and vermicelli noodles.

* cha gio
The cha gio here are huge. Like really thick. They are also stuffed full of yummy goodness.

* broken rice with chicken and pork + fried egg.
This was mine and it was ok. I usually go for the pho here, but it was too hot for me to down a large bowl of steaming soup. I found the meat to be a bit dry, but dunked in nuoc nam (the sweet and salty fish sauce-based sauce) it was all good.

* pho with tripe and beef
This was Joe's. He likes to sweat.

* pho with beef balls
This is what I usually order. Spongy meatballs and rice noodles. Very satisfying.

  1. Had my 1st avocado milkshake in Brazil years ago. You're right, sounds terrible, but sooo good AND easy to make at home!

  2. Brae, how do you make these? Avocado, ice, milk and condensed milk?

  3. The Brazilian way:
    1 avocado
    1 cup yogurt
    2 tablespoons honey
    leaves of fresh lemon balm
    1 cup ice (optional)
    Sugar to taste
